Electric Buses Outlook
- As battery price makes up for around 40.0% of the electric bus manufacturing cost, the reduced price of batteries is predicted to help the manufacturer keep the electric bus prices under check. Furthermore, it is expected that the electric vehicle cost, including buses, would decline due to the rising operational efficiency.
- Recently, the Ministry of Urban Development launched the Green Urban Transport Scheme with the motive of completely eliminating carbon emissions from public transport in the nation.
- The Indian electric bus market is predicted to witness a sale of 7,187 units by 2025, progressing at a 53.0% CAGR during the 2019 2025 period.
Fame Scheme Highlights
- As part of the National Electric Mobility Mission Plan (NEMMP) 2020, Department of Heavy Industry formulated a Scheme namely Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of (Hybrid &) Electric Vehicles India (FAME India) Scheme in March, 2015 to promote electric & hybrid vehicle (xEVs) in the country.
- In the First Phase of the Scheme about 2.8 lakh hybrid and electric vehicles were supported by way of demand incentive amounting to about Rs 359 crore. Further, DHI sanctioned 425 electric and hybrid buses to various cities in the country with total cost of about 280 Crores.
- The FAME India Scheme budget allocation for Phase Il was Rs. 10,000 crore, which was later increased to Rs. 11,500 crore. The scheme was implemented from April 1, 2019 for a period of five years.
Salient Features
- 10,000 e-buses to be supported in 169 cities across India with an approx. outlay of $ 6.5 Bn (~INR 57,000 Crores)
- Central Assistance for Operation of e-buses on PPP model in urban areas on per km basis for 10 years or up to March 2037.
- State guarantee will be provided for payment of bus operations.
- 100% central assistance for creation of behind the-meter power infrastructure.
- Convergence Energy Services Limited (a Govt. of India undertaking) will float a unified tender for price discovery of and the proposed contract duration is 12 years.
- GCC wet lease model to be adopted along with an annual escalation clause on GCC rates.
